Darent Valley Hospital

As we continue with or plans to manage the current COVID-19 pandemic, all blood tests for patients 12 years and over will take place at Gravesend Community Hospital (GCH), Bath Street, Gravesend DA11 ODG until further notice.

The opening hours at GCH are Monday to Friday (9am to 2pm) - no appointment necessary, people are seen on a first come, first served basis.  Please do not come to either Darent Valley Hospital or Queen Mary's Hospital to have your blood taken.

We will continue with blood tests for children under 12 years of age (including maternity) at Darent Valley Hospital as usual.

We thank you for your co-operation and understanding during these unprecedented circumstances.

From the 9th November 2020

We are pleased to announce that from 9th November 2020, the blood test services that were moved out to Gravesend Community Hospital will be resuming at Darent Valley Hospital.  Blood tests were moved into the community to allow for the increase in Coronavirus cases needing acute care at the hospital. Further infection control precautions remain in place at the hospital to minimise the risk of spreading the virus.  We still need to keep the footfall through the hospital to essential visits only along with many other restrictions that are designed to keep patients, staff and visitors safe.

We would like to thank our colleagues in the CCGs and at Gravesham Community Hospital for their support in continuing to provide the service outside of the hospital and appreciate this has been inconvenient and frustrating for patients needing a blood test.  We thank you for your patience, understanding and cooperation and apologise for any inconvenience this action has caused.

The blood test service at Darent Valley is by appointment only and following a request for you to have a test by a member of the hospital clinical staff. GP blood tests remain in the community.

To book your blood test appointment simply call the following from 22nd October:  01322 428846. The booking line will be open from Mon – Fri 08.30 – 17.00 from that date. To continue with our commitment to keep footfall to a minimum, only those with a valid appointment letter or daily access code will be allowed to enter the hospital. Please ensure that you remain vigilant against the spread of Coronavirus at all times by wearing a face mask, staying 2 metres apart and keeping your hands clean, especially after touching surfaces.

Thank you.

Blood tests are carried out on patients who are referred to us via one of the methods below:

  1. Patients who have been seen on the day for an Outpatient appointment and referred to have a blood test.
These patients will be given a number and asked to sit and wait for their test.
This service is open 08:30 - 16:50 Monday – Friday.
If the patient is unable to wait we can book an appointment to return at a later date.
  2. Patients who have been referred by their GP for a blood test.
All GP patients must book an appointment for their test – we are unable to bleed patients without an appointment as the department is very busy.
