Overview

Having to go to hospital, or finding your way around a large and busy hospital, can be a daunting experience. This section provides you with practical information on, what to expect and who is available to give you further advice and support.

If you receive certain benefits, you may be entitled to a refund of travel costs. Entitlement rules may be subject to change over time. Eligible patients should visit the Cashiers Office on Level 2 to make a claim and for more information. Please bring proof of eligibility.

The Trust will not tolerate violence, physical aggression or verbal abuse towards their staff, patients or visitors. If this occurs, offenders will be removed from the hospital, and legal action will be taken. Criminal activity will always be referred to the police.

Please notify the person responsible for your referral (e.g. your GP) that you will require an interpreters/signer for your hospital appointment/admission.

Most wards have access to Wi-Fi on NHS Wi-Fi. Please contact the ward to confirm. Laptops and mobiles are allowed (if users are respectful of other patients – it’s a good idea to bring headphones and label devices clearly). We ask that you ensure any chargers that you may bring for devices are in a good working condition, so as not to cause a fire. Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust take no responsibility for damages or loss of property.

*Please be aware that some bedside entertainment may not be in use.

When our patients are assessed as medically fit for discharge by a Consultant, we will update the nominated contact or we will ask the patient to do this if they are able. We may ask our patients to wait in the discharge lounge whilst final arrangements are made. The Discharge Lounge is in the the ground floor (Level 1).

Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust recognise that support during hospital visits from family, friends and carers is an integral part of a patients' recovery. That's why we welcome visitors throughout the day to best suit individuals and family needs.
