Our team

Darent Valley Hospital provides a neurology service. The team consists of six less than Full Time Consultant Neurologists, a Specialist Registrar, Specialist Nurses in MS and PD and the secretarial support Team.

What we do

We provide a diagnostic out-patient service which supports the hospital Emergency department and primary care and specialised clinics to manage long term complex neurological disorders. These include multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, headache & facial pain, motor neurone disease, neurocognitive disorders and movement disorders.

Within the hospital we provide an in-patient liaison service to all parts of the hospital.

We provide neurological support to the Stroke Unit at DVH as inpatients, outpatients and at MDTs. There is neuroradiology on the DVH site and twice weekly neuro-radiology MDTs to review scans of our patients and scans provided to us from other sources including primary care.

We refer patients for neurophysiology to the Regional Neurosciences Centre at King’s College Hospital. For more specialist in-patient neurological assessment we use the Regional Neurosciences Centre at King’s College Hospital & the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

We work closely with the Community Neuro-rehab Team based at Gravesend & provide neurological input to the Ellenor Hospice at Gravesend.

Referrals

Referrals can be made by GPs through the NHS e-Referral service or by a hospital consultant.  We accept referrals for common neurological conditions only. Patients may be referred to a tertiary provider for a more specialist in-patient neurological assessment.
