The Childhood Constipation Service supports families and children with idiopathic chronic constipation. This means that a child’s constipation cannot be explained by a physiological abnormality. Our aim is to educate and empower families/carers via virtual education clinics and regular follow up telephone consultations which promotes support and effective management of constipation symptoms. Parents/Carers are able to request for their GP to be referred to our service.

The Childhood Constipation Team consists of myself, Jemima Rowe (Paediatric Constipation Nurse) and Louise Stapley (Service Co-ordinator).

The service was created and led by Sandra Hanson for many years, however she retired in May 2023. She won a Nursing Times Award for the creation of the www.poonurses.uk video which gives an informational guide to childhood constipation including macrogols.
