Alok Gupta, Consultant Paediatrician and Clinical Director for our Children & Young People Services, said: "It’s the best Christmas gift one can have! I am very proud of our CYP team and every member who helps and contributes to our multidisciplinary (MDT) teaching and training program.

My special and heartfelt thanks to Dr Hasib, our college tutor who does his job fabulously on a 24/7 basis. To all the educational and clinical supervisors who have an absolute commitment to junior doctors’ education, training and welfare. To all the senior nursing team who support our education program all the time, all other colleagues in the wider MDT team who goes over and above to help the trainees to achieve their maximum potential out of their training opportunities. To our Medical Education Team for their excellent support, the Divisional & the Trust Senior Leadership teams for their unconditional support in making DGT the best centre for junior doctors’ training in paediatrics in the region."

Well done all on a fantastic achievement.

The winning nomination said: "Darent Valley Hospital paediatrics department is supportive to both trainees and non-trainees. The Consultants are accessible, approachable and lovely to work with. They create a good working environment for all. There is a focus on teaching with regular weekly consultant supervised or led teachings and lots of teaching in informal settings. Trainees are also encouraged and supported with work place based assessments. The SAS doctors are very helpful and the nursing team is excellent to work with. The unit is appropriately staffed with a very supportive rota team. Patient’s needs are prioritised and the team goes above and beyond to meet their needs. The unit is open to learning new things and trying out new ideas. There is a culture of giving constructive feedback to the team members which is very helpful. There is a lot of diversity and inclusivity and the team works well in MDT settings. It is a Joy to work with this team and they deserve to be recognised and appreciated.”
