Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust’s (DGT) Clinical Education team has made the shortlist in the Hospital Student Placement of the Year category at this year’s Student Nursing Times Awards.

The purpose of this award is “To recognise the wards and hospital settings that go the extra mile to manage the anxieties associated with going on placement by providing a structured learning environment that helps students to develop and flourish.

This includes clearly setting out what students will be exposed to during their time at the hospital, and ensuring they are supported to learn, practise skills and gain knowledge from those around them with more experience.” – Student Nursing Times Awards

As part of the entry process, DGT’s Clinical Education team proudly detailed their efforts to introduce and roll out the Hub and Spoke placement design for student placements across the Trust.

This project has been vital to support student learning and to allow student nurses and trainee nursing associates to access all the vast, rich learning experiences open to them, attend engagement events and meetings with senior leadership teams and managers. The Hub and Spoke experiences are open to all students and allow them to follow a patient’s journey and enhance their knowledge of other aspects of care and the wider health and social system.

The team is looking forward to the next stage of the judging process where they will deliver a presentation on the project.

The winners will be announced at the official awards ceremony on 16 April 2024 – good luck to our team here at DGT and to the other finalists.
