After months of collaborative work with our colleagues at Evelina Children’s Hospital, London we are proud to have hosted our first ever Multi-Disciplinary Team Clinic for Children and Young People with Complex Epilepsy at Darent Valley on Thursday 2nd December.

Led by Dr Chinwe Ude, Consultant Paediatrician with Epilepsy and Neurology special interest, the service is designed to meet the needs of families dealing with complex epilepsy, to improve the patient journey and enhance their clinical outcomes. It will be an excellent platform for professionals to work more closely together and learn from each other for the benefit of the patients.

Children in this clinic will have improved access to tertiary investigations and their care can be smoothly supported by tertiary specialist opinions and interventions. We aim to hold 6 clinic days/year (12 sessions/year), and patients are appointed to the clinic based on their complexity and clinical needs.

We are delighted to welcome Dr Shan Tang, Consultant Paediatric Neurologist from Evelina Children’s Hospital, who is bringing her wealth of experience and expertise to better serve our children and young people with complex epilepsy in this clinic - we are looking forward to working even more closely with her.

“I am super proud of my Team who are working so hard to keep our Paediatric Epilepsy and Neurology Service (PENS) services going. Suzanne Dyer, our PENS secretary is meticulous and marvellous! And just as marvellous are our Roald Dahl Specialist Nurses, Sarah Buchan-Tigeres and Rebecca Seamons. To top it off, Dr Khanna, my new consultant colleague has joined our mission - it is impressive to see that she has indeed hit the ground running!”– Dr Chinwe Ude, Paediatrics Consultant, Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust.

The Trust is eager to not only observe the positive impact on patients as a result of this clinic, but also see the improvement in the multi-disciplinary working of our professionals.
