Learning and Development

Our Commitment to Learning and Development

At Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust, we know that great patient care starts with our people. Our staff are our greatest asset, and when they are supported, invested in, valued and able to grow, they deliver the best outcomes for our patients.

That’s why we are passionate about creating a culture where learning is continuous, intrinsic, and where every member of staff can develop and progress with us.

This section is dedicated to learning and development, supporting students, trainees, and anyone interested in developing their skills with us.

Our Learning & Organisational Development (L&OD) teams provide a wide range of opportunities to support your aspirations and career. This includes leadership development, improving work‑based learning skills, apprenticeships, and role‑specific training such as managing challenging behaviour, alongside coaching, career planning and talent development.

While clinical and medical colleagues have access to specialist education teams, our L&D offer provides a high‑quality, inclusive development experience available to all staff across the Trust.

We support cultural change across the organisation, delivering a range of equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives and actively supporting our seven staff networks to help create a more inclusive workplace for everyone.

From day one, we commit to supporting our people to find Joy at Work – one of the Trust’s strategic pillars.

Our Trust‑wide induction includes instant access to eLearning alongside an Executive‑led welcome focused on patient experience and inclusion. This is followed by a marketplace in the Marquee, where you will meet our corporate and staff support services.

As you grow with us, our award‑winning learning platform, engage, gives you flexible access to bite‑sized learning, in‑depth courses and essential training. This sits alongside mandatory and statutory training, national resources such as the NHS Learning Hub, and diagnostic tools including Strengthscope and 360‑degree feedback.

We recognise that development is personal. Through our cutting‑edge AI‑powered coaching and mentoring platform, Guider‑ai, staff can access tailored support, connect with others, and take an active role in their own learning and growth.

We are committed to developing leaders at every level. Our leadership programmes, aligned to national NHS standards, support staff to build the skills and confidence needed to succeed.

Our apprenticeship pathways offer funded opportunities to gain recognised qualifications and progress careers, and for those just starting out, we also support T‑Levels in partnership with local schools and colleges.

Additional training opportunities are available through our Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Fund, with all staff able to apply for learning that benefits both their role within the Trust and their longer‑term career development.
