Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust’s very own Clinical Trials Practitioner, Carmel Stuart, tells us her experience of having the COVID-19 vaccine and why she chose to have all three doses:

"I have received all 3 vaccinations offered by our Trust. Each time I have been vaccinated, I have actually been excited to have it.

I got COVID-19 myself in December 2020. I had such an awful experience with it. I experienced such an incredible burning pain. It is the most pain that I had ever been in, in my life. The experience gave me a fear of COVID. I wouldn’t wish what I experienced on anyone, and I also know that I was a lucky one - I didn’t need to have any hospital intervention. But still, what I experienced was scary enough for me and I never wish to be infected with it again.

When the vaccinations were approved, I needed no convincing; I was all for it. When the vaccinations were advertised through Communications in the Trust, I signed up straight away. The process was easy. Everything was extremely well organised in the Vaccination Hub. The staff giving the vaccinations were kind, knowledgeable and professional. The DGT Doers that were assisting with the organisation were very helpful and friendly. Everything was kept clean and COVID-safe. Each time, I have received the Pfizer vaccine. I experienced minimal side effects. The only thing that stands out in my memory is having quite a dead and achy arm. However, that only lasted a day and then I had the reassurance of an extra layer of protection from COVID.”
