Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust’s Consultant Urologist, Professor Seshadri (Sri) Sriprasad, was elected as the first BAME President of the prestigious Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) Urology section in October 2021 and completed his very successful Presidency last month.

The RSM was formed in London in 1907 and the Urology section was formed in 1920, and it has taken more than a century since its inception to have a BAME person at the helm of Urology to this August office.

In his tenure as president, Sri made all the high-quality teaching and meetings free for trainees and students, and through hybrid and zoom meetings, he has spread Urology education widely - doctors could assess the teaching from anywhere. He also strived for diversity in teaching and speakers, limited the London centricity of the section and allowed teaching and training to spread far and wide. As a nod to Kent, his President’s Day was celebrated at Leeds Castle in May of this year and was well attended by academics, urologists and trainees.

Following the Professor’s successful term, Miss Nadine Coull took over the Presidency of the RSM (Urology Section) in October 2022 and she is the first female president in one hundred years for the section!

Incidentally, Sri is also the first BAME Chair of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS), Endourology Section (2022-2024), another premier organisation for Urological training and is making significant contribution to Endourology training.

We are extremely lucky to have Sri at Darent Valley Hospital, he has been instrumental in establishing several new services, has been a great teacher, researcher and mentor in Urology. Widely published, he was also awarded the John Anderson medal for his services to Urology by BAUS.

Well done, Sri, and thank you for all that you are doing.
