We are proud to showcase our ‘Milestone Bell on Wheels’ here at Darent Valley Hospital’s Chemotherapy Suite, Pine Therapy Unit.
Crafted by our nurses, the portable bell can be taken out into the garden so that patients can have their relatives visit and see them ring the bell which marks the end of their treatment, or the completion of a phase of their treatment.
This is often something that people really look forward to, but since the COVID-19 pandemic, we haven't been able to have visitors on the Chemotherapy Unit, meaning that patients haven't been able to share this moment with their loved ones. Now with a portable bell, we can offer this meaningful experience again, socially distanced.
Our Macmillan Lead Chemotherapy Nurse, Nicola Keena, commented: “We are very pleased that Pine Therapy Unit now has a bell on wheels. Ringing the bell is a momentous part of a patient’s journey and we are really excited to be able to offer this experience for them and their loved ones in a safe, socially distanced environment’.
