We’re excited to announce that today, we are launching a new Artist in Residence Programme at Darent Valley Hospital: the Poetry Prescription Trolley.
Over six days, the artist-in-residence Jemma Burgess will visit outpatient wards with a roaming trolley of “creative remedies” - poems, writing prompts, and conversations. Patients will be invited to take what they need: a poem to reflect on, a gentle writing exercise, or simply a meaningful chat.
What patients receive:
- A personal moment of creativity and reflection
- The chance to explore writing for wellbeing
- A space to create hope, community, and inspiration in hospital life
Why it matters:
Creative health supports wellbeing, reduces stress, and helps people find connection and meaning. The poems gathered will be shared on the hospital radio and displayed across the hospital, leaving a legacy of patient voices and hope.
This project is proudly funded by Arts Council England, Kent County Council, and Baton of Hope UK, and will culminate in an installation at the Where the Light Begins Festival.
