To support our NHS colleagues at Medway NHS Foundation Trust, due to the loss of their specialist nurses, making it impossible for them to maintain the necessary quality of stroke service, from the 1st July 2020 we will temporarily be receiving acute stroke patients that would have been taken to Medway NHS Foundation Trust.  This is part of a planned emergency strategy put in place temporarily to support Medway Hospital whilst they work to resolve their current staffing issues.

This action has been taken to ensure that stroke patients can continue to receive the appropriate and safe level of care at both Darent Valley Hospital and Maidstone Hospital.  This is a temporary measure and not part of the Kent and Medway Stroke Service Review that is currently underway. That development will come later once detailed implementation plans are updated as part of the Kent and Medway Stroke Services Review have been agreed and following the outcome of the referral to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.
