Chief Midwifery Officer for England Professor Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent OBE has paid a visit to Darent Valley Hospital (DVH) for a tour of its maternity unit and to surprise two members of the maternity team with awards, recognising them for going above and beyond.

Professor Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent OBE was invited to Darent Valley Hospital to hear about the many celebrations and improvements in maternity services, including the outstanding work completed to achieve compliance against the 7 Immediate Essential Actions (IEA’s) from the Ockenden report, the outstanding feedback received from our service users in the CQC patient survey, rating the maternity services as second most improved maternity unit in England and seventh overall for positive patient experience in the country.

Jacqueline said it was an “absolute privilege” to meet Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust staff and how “you can feel the enthusiasm, passion and drive to further improve the quality of care for mums, babies and families in the region.”

Two members of the DVH maternity team received the CMO silver awards for their commitment and to recognise performance that goes above and beyond the everyday role that a midwife is expected to perform. Karen George, one of the community midwifery team leaders and Joanne Seymour, risk and governance lead midwife and senior midwifery manager.

Michele Ahluwalia, Director of Midwifery & Gynaecology, said: “We are extremely proud to welcome Professor Dunkley-Bent to our Maternity unit, for her to see the maternity unit and meet the many dedicated people who work here. We are so proud of our staff and the work we do here and across all of our maternity services.”
