DGT is shortlisted for THREE Nursing Times Awards

We are delighted to report that multiple colleagues have been named as finalists at the Nursing Times Awards, giving us a total of three shortlisted entries this year!

Congratulations to our Paediatric Emergency Department Sisters, Louise Black and Nicola Bryant, who have been shortlisted in two categories; Children’s Services and Critical and Emergency Care Nursing.

It was Louise and Nicola’s industry-leading project, ‘One chance to get it right: The role of the family liaison nurse in unexpected child death in the emergency department’, which caught the eye of the judges this year. Louise and Nicola have dedicated themselves to working closely with external organisations, including the police and the Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP), to make sure grieving families have the right support systems in place. Through their collaborative efforts, they have helped connect essential services, making a significant difference to the experience of parents and carers as they navigate the difficult and overwhelming journey that follows the loss of a child.

Secondly, congratulations to our Infection Prevention and Control Team who have been named as finalists for the Infection Prevention and Control Award! The team was shortlisted for their Housekeeper infection prevention and control champions’ programme which is a nurse-led, CPD-accredited training initiative launched in 2024 to empower housekeepers with infection prevention and control (IPC) knowledge and skills. Through a combination of online modules and practical sessions, the programme standardises cleaning protocols, improves resource access, and enhances patient safety. It is the first of its kind in England, fostering professional development and creating IPC champions within the housekeeping workforce.

Thank you to our colleagues for their outstanding work and showcasing innovation in their fields! We wish them the very best of luck at the official awards ceremony at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Wednesday 22 October.
