DGT hosts Kent's first regional stroke simulation

We are proud to celebrate a major milestone in stroke education and training, having successfully hosted Kent’s first Regional Stroke Simulation on 13th May 2025, in partnership with the British and Irish Association of Stroke Physicians (BIASP) and the UK & ROI Regional Stroke Simulation Network.

The one-day course, held in the simulation suite at DVH, brought together candidates from across the UK to participate in a series of realistic and complex stroke scenarios. The event fostered rich discussion, hands-on experience, and critical learning moments – all delivered to the highest educational standards. Feedback from candidates and national leads was overwhelmingly positive, praising the course as an informative and engaging learning experience.

Two external faculty members representing BIASP, along with two observers from other trusts exploring similar initiatives, attended the session and were notably impressed with the smooth organisation, expert facilitation, and the collaborative spirit of the DVH team. The day also proved to be a fantastic opportunity to exchange insights and forge strong foundations for future partnerships in stroke education.

This landmark achievement was made possible by the tireless efforts of a dedicated team. Special thanks go to Dr. Aghoram (Consultant in Stroke Medicine), whose vision, perseverance, and leadership laid the groundwork for this event. She was supported by an expert local faculty comprising Dr. Abinas Gurung (Stroke Consultant) and Dr. Rebecca Jayasinghe (ST7 in Geriatric Medicine), who were commended for facilitating thought-provoking debrief discussions that enriched the learning experience.

The event's success would not have been possible without the seamless coordination of Mini (Stroke Practice Development Nurse), whose exceptional planning ensured the day ran effortlessly. Appreciation also goes to our brilliant simulation team – Zoe, Jasmine, and Sherrie – for their technical expertise and logistical support, as well as to our dedicated stroke nurses – Rebecca Garcia, Helen, Ayo, Shahram, Mulero, and Alero – for their invaluable contributions throughout the event.

Gratitude is also extended to Dr. Samuel Sanmuganathan (Lead Stroke Consultant), Amanda Martin (Clinical Lead for Stroke Services), and Dr. Ella Sherman (Course Director, UK & ROI Acute Stroke Simulation) for their unwavering encouragement and support.

We are delighted to announce that DVH has already been invited to host another regional simulation course!

Congratulations to the entire team – a job truly well done!
