DGT Celebrates World Social Work Day

Today is World Social Work Day and this year's theme is 'Co-building a New Social World: Leaving No one Behind'.

The theme presents a vision and action plan to create new global values, policies and practices that develop trust, security and confidence for all people and the sustainability of the planet.

To celebrate, DGT's Macmillan Psychosocial Lead, Anne O'Callaghan, and her fantastic team have decorated the space outside their office to raise awareness and outline the importance of social workers and the role they play in society. Thank you to our team for all that you do to help our patients.

What are Social Workers?
Social workers make a difference to individuals and families by helping them live their lives more successfully. They work with patients to find solutions to their problems and empower them to make changes. Social Workers work with a variety of different groups including: the elderly, children with disabilities, mental health problems or physical disabilities, people with alcohol, drug or other substance misuse problems, refugees and asylum seekers, families at risk of breaking down, children who need to live apart from their families, foster carers and adopters, children who are at risk of abuse or neglect and carers.

Why are Social Workers important?
Social Workers are important as they work with vulnerable people to help promote their human rights and wellbeing. These people can often be neglected or forgotten about in society and struggle to manage from day-to-day.
