Darent Valley Hospital has introduced mandatory mask wearing across all clinical areas following a sharp rise in flu cases. This sudden rise has prompted the Trust to activate enhanced infection control measures to protect patients, staff and visitors.
From today, Wednesday 10 December, everyone entering a clinical area must wear a surgical mask. Masks will be available at entrances and hand sanitising stations are being redeployed across the site and will be regularly topped up.
The hospital is also asking anyone who feels unwell not to visit until they are fully recovered. This is particularly important as many patients receiving care may be at increased risk of complications from flu. Wards caring for flu patients will temporarily restrict visiting to two people per patient for the next fourteen days.
With flu activity rising quickly, it is essential that everyone on site plays a part in reducing transmission. These steps are straightforward but powerful in helping to protect the most vulnerable.
