Angela Agore named as Overseas Nurse of the Year at the Nursing Times Workforce Awards 2025

We are proud to announce that Angela Agore, Lead Nurse for Research at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, has been named Overseas Nurse of the Year at the Nursing Times Workforce Awards 2025.

This prestigious recognition celebrates Angela’s leadership skills and unwavering commitment to advancing research and supporting internationally educated nurses worldwide.

Angela’s journey is a powerful story of resilience and determination. From overcoming early challenges as one of the first Internationally Educated Nurses recruited under shortage occupation rules, to supporting our Research and Development team to become one of the top-performing teams in the region, having increased trial income by 380%, and rising from 10th to 3rd in Kent, Surrey, and Sussex for research participation — the largest improvement in a decade.

Beyond her work within the Trust, Angela champions inclusion and diversity on a national and global scale. As UK lead for the Ghanaian Diaspora Nursing Alliance, she supports over 600 Ghanaian nurses, fostering mentorship, wellbeing, and career progression. Her advocacy has reached international platforms, including the International Council of Nurses Congress and the Consortium of Universities for Global Health Conference, where she has amplified the voices of overseas nurses and called for fairer policies.

Angela’s leadership philosophy is rooted in compassion and lived experience. Her story embodies the courage to turn setbacks into opportunities and the vision to create pathways for others. As her nomination stated: “She has transformed barriers into bridges, ensuring research meets community needs while lifting others to thrive in UK healthcare.”

Please join us in congratulating Angela on this outstanding achievement.
