Complementary therapies

A qualified and experienced therapist offers a range of complementary therapies to staff at specially discounted rates, on the premises once a month. The range of therapies on offer may vary a little depending on demand but usually include neck massage, back massage, reflexology, and reiki.

Fitness sessions

We provide an on site gym and exercise sessions with a personal fitness adviser. The sessions are run in the physiotherapy gym when it is not in use by patients. There is a charge for the use of the gym and these classes but the costs are very competitive with outside rates and with the added convenience of being located on site.  Fees for the gym are paid via deductions from salary.

Discount for NHS staff, their families and friends

Employees also have access to the nationally run Health Service Discounts scheme. This is a commercial operation previously known as NHS Discounts, offering employees of the NHS discounts on shopping, travel, finance and more.

A number of national suppliers offer discounts to all NHS staff on goods and services, ranging from mail-order products to insurance and mortgages. Our staff also benefit from a wide range of discounts at local outlets, particularly restaurants. All these discounts are easily accessible via our staff intranet.

Hospital chaplaincy service

The multi-faith chaplaincy seeks to meet the pastoral and spiritual needs of patients and staff whether they practise a formal religion or not. The team consists of a full time Anglican chaplain, part- time Roman Catholic and Free Church chaplains and volunteers including Muslim ward visitors. The chaplains are happy to put members of staff in touch with a faith representative or spiritual adviser of their choice.

Chaplains are always willing to listen, in confidence, to any member of staff and to support them in any way they can. The chapel/multi-faith prayer room is situated on Level One and is open 24 hours a day for prayer, stillness or reflection. A supply of holy books and religious articles from the major faiths are kept there.

Onsite facilities

The hospital has an on-site M&S, Costa coffee cafe, cashpoints, gym and convenience stores. Staff receive discounts in the Original Food Company restuarant located on level 1.

On site bus stops

Buses stop directly inside the hospital grounds and serve most of the surrounding areas.
