Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust  is committed to combating discrimination in all its forms. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people face discrimination, harassment and prejudice as part of their everyday life.

Our equalities work highlights that this kind of discrimination is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated in any form.


We are aware that sexuality is a sensitive subject so we have provided a list of helpful definitions to assist us when working within the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community.

Legal Framework

A number of pieces of legislation that provide protection from discrimination, victimisation and harassment for employment and the delivery of goods, services and facilities.

  • Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulation 2003

  • Civil Partnerships Act 2004

  • Equality Act 2006 outlawing discrimination in provision of services, exercise of public functions etc on grounds of sexual orientation

  • The Sex Discrimination (Gender Reassignment) Regulations 1999

  • The Gender Recognition Act (2004)
