Surgery is performed by our experienced specialists and surgeons to treat the full range of non-complex general surgery procedures and services.

  • Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy both upper and lower gastrointestinal (GI) investigations

  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

  • Proctology procedures (including laser and Rafaelo Procedure) for the effective removal of piles

This service is operating as a fully staffed 5-day theatre service and 7-day ward area.

As part of the National Vanguard Programme, the Trust has developed its vascular service in partnership with Guy’s and St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust to provide patients with enhanced emergency and elective vascular services locally at Darent Valley Hospital and at the Planned Care Centre, Queen Mary’s Hospital Sidcup. 



Endoscopic evaluation and surgical treatment of upper gastrointestinal and small bowel disorders are provided by our Endoscopy Team in the Day Care Centre at Darent Valley Hospital and the Endoscopy Centre in the Newland Building at the Planned Care Centre, Queen Mary’s Hospital Sidcup.

Opening hours at:

Day Care Unit at Darent Valley Hospital are: Monday to Friday 08.00 - 18.00

The Planned Care Centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 08.30-12.30 and 13.00-17.30. The unit does not operate on a Tuesday.

Referrals can be made by GPs through the NHS e-Referral service or by a hospital consultant.

Urgent suspected cancer GP referrals are seen within two weeks through the fast-track system via our cancer referral office
