CENEWLINKThe Trust provides a gastroenterology service at Darent Valley Hospital and at the Planned Care Centre at Queen Mary's Hospital Sidcup.

Our specialist team include six consultants, specialist registrars and an endoscopic/upper gastro-intestinal clinical nurse specialist. They offer endoscopic procedures, both diagnostic and therapeutic as well as support and advice for a range of gastrointestinal disorders including:

  • Biliary Tract Disease
  • Coeliac Disease
  • Crohn's Disease
  • Dyspepsia
  • Functional Dyspepsia
  • Gallbladder Disease
  • Gastrointestinal Malignancy
  • Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease
  • Indeterminate Colitis
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Liver Disease 
  • Pancreatic Disease
  • Peptic Ulcer Disease
  • Treatment of Common Bile Duct Stones, Sphincterotomy, Biliary Stenting, Draining of Pancreatic Pseudocysts
  • Ulcerative Colitis


As part of this service, we work closely with our dietetics and nutrition teams in the management of patients with unexplained weight loss, anaemia and iron deficiency.

Outpatient appointment locations 

Appointments take place in one of the following locations:

  • Day Care Unit at Darent Valley Hospital
  • Outpatients, Planned Care Centre, Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup


Diagnostic endoscopic examinations such as Diagnostic Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Enteroscopy and ERCP are provided by our Endoscopy Team in the Day Care Centre at Darent Valley Hospital and the Endoscopy Centre in the Newland Building at the Planned Care Centre, Queen Mary’s Hospital Sidcup.

Endoscopy procedures at the Day Care Unit at Darent Valley Hospital take place: Monday to Friday 08.00 - 18.00.

Endoscopy procedures at the Planned Care Centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital take place: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 08.30-12.30 and 13.00-17.30. The unit does not operate on a Tuesday.

JAG Accreditation

Our Endoscopy Unit at Darent Valley is JAG accredited in recognition of the safe, patient centred and efficient service we offer our patients. Our state-of-the-art decontamination unit ensures that our scopes are reprocessed to the highest standards and our team of doctors, physicians and surgeons are Joint Advisory Group in Gastroenterology (JAG) accredited to ensure excellent patient care and safety.

Routine Referrals

Referrals can be made by GPs through the NHS e-Referral service or by a hospital consultant. 

Patients at risk of cancer can be referred via the two-week cancer pathway.
