Pregnancy is a very exciting time, but it can be full of unanswered questions as you plan for the birth of your baby. The Maternity Parent Education Team aim to offer a wide choice of evidence based antenatal classes, where you can ask those questions, explore your options for pregnancy, birth and beyond, whilst meeting other expectant parents.        

Breastfeeding workshop


Are you pregnant and would you like to find out more about breastfeeding? Then book a place on one of our antenatal breastfeeding workshop. Recommended for 30 - 36 weeks,

Every Wednesday 10 am - 12 Noon.

Caring for your New Baby Class


The Maternity Department invites you to our information sessions on caring for your new baby.

Darent Valley Hospital 

One Saturday every month - 

AM Sessions 10am – 1pm or PM Sessions 1. 30 pm - 4.30pm

Home birth classes


Come along to our home birth preparation classes and explore other options for you place of birth. Hear from other women and families who have had a home birth, speak to midwives, talk to other expectant parents and ask questions in our two hour drop-in sessions.

  Hypnobirthing courses


A preparation for birth course in which you will learn about the wonderful process of labour and how  you can positively influence it by acquiring positive perceptions and  learning to relax and to create a positive environment for birth.

  • 10 hour course.
  • Courses run for 4 consecutive Tuesdays or Wednesdays 7.00pm and 9.30pm
  • We also offer some weekend courses Sat and Sun 10.00am to 4.00pm (both days inclusive)
  • Cost £50 per person/couple

Weekend   Sat 7th and Sun 8th (10 am to 4 pm both days)

Twins and Triplets Pregnancy Evening


Having more than one baby? Come and discuss multiple pregnancy and birth, feeding and early days, practical parenting tips and meet other parents to be.  All classes 7pm to 9pm in the Tambootie Seminar Room.

Vaginal Birth after Cesarean Section (VBAC) Group Sessions


If you have had a C-Section before and wish to try for vaginal delivery or are still undecided, our VBAC group is open to you one Saturday morning a month. Come along to know more about the VBAC process and learn valuable coping skills for your labour.

Waterbirth workshops

Cost £15 per person/couple

The workshop is interactive and couples look at the benefits of water and the benefits of using water in labour.

  • Meet other couples planning a water birth; 
  • Explore active birth and the use of water for complementing any birth experience; 
  • Receive support in choosing to use water for labour.
