Swallow Awareness Day 2019

Yesterday, to raise awareness for both Nutrition and Hydration Week and Swallowing Awareness Day our Speech & Language Therapists, Dietetics Team and Serco Catering Team hosted a texture modified meals “come dine with me” event on Spruce ward. This engaged staff, patients and visitors in tasting a variety of new products, offering an enhanced visual and taste experience. The range has been developed to offer more choice to patients, enabling patients to choose more freely in their selection. The quality and appearance has moved on exceptionally over the years and this session gave all attendees the chance to judge this for themselves.

The meals are provided to patients with swallowing difficulties and provide a progression in texture, with an aim to help the patient to achieve their full potential for oral intake.

Chris Cheel, Serco Catering Manager said “ I am always delighted to work with our DGT colleagues in promoting all elements of the food service. We have a great chance to enhance the patient experience in this area, with some new products, which judging by today's feedback will be well received.”

Olive Elliot, a visitors to Spruce Ward said “my husband has been on Spruce Ward for a week and I have really enjoyed tasting all of the different foods he is now being offered.”
