Surgical Nurses Engagement Event

Surgical Nurses Engagement Event

The Surgical Nurses Engagement Event held on the 4th April was very well attended from a broad spectrum of staff.  It was a great opportunity to get staff together to hear about what is going on in the Surgical Care Group.

There were heaps of fun and lots of learning from a ‘Night at the Movies’. This was all about different leadership skills which was very entertaining and served along with popcorn!

The event also focused on the CQC readiness and three work stations were in place to review the Trusts 3 C’s:

  • Celebrations – we were overwhelmed by the comments – one staff member said ‘an excellent evening’, ‘staff recognition’, ‘permanent theatre matron’, ‘positive feedback’, ‘I have been made very welcome – to the surgical side’, ‘team work and team bounding’, ’love the team work and support’.
  • Changes – ‘more time for discharges’, ‘less paperwork’, ’more time to care’,  ’listening to nursing clinical judgements when discharging patients’ .
  • Challenges -  ‘providing high quality care’, ‘ going from student nurse to qualified nurse’, ‘ staffing levels’, ‘nurses to work under less pressure’, ‘time to listen’ and ’capacity’.

All staff left the event with a goody bag and a certificate of attendance, together with a reflection page for staff revalidation

Feedback of the event was excellent, and staff have asked for another one to be held soon. We are now planning to do another event this time, an ‘Afternoon at the Movies’ on 9th May.
