Many congratulations to Sarah Scullion, Decontamination Technician on our Endoscopy Suite who is the latest winner of a STAR award. Sarah (pictured with her colleagues) was presented with her certificate by Lorraine Mills, Director of Finance.

Sarah was nominated for this award by Diane Gambrell who said "I would like to nominate Sarah for her commitment to patient care and team work during the recent snow.

Sarah lives in Chatham which was one of the areas hit by a sudden large amount of snow fall on the night of Friday 1st February 2019.

Sarah was due to work on Saturday 2nd February in the endoscopy unit at DVH but was unable to retrieve her car due to the snow. Sarah is a member of our decon team and is responsible for the safe decontamination and reprocessing of our flexible endoscopes. When lists are run on a Saturday there is generally only one of the decon team present to carry out this role. Sarah was aware that she was the only person able to do this and if she couldn’t make it to work the service would have to cancel patients if cover could not be found.

Sarah therefore took one bus, 2 trains and another bus to reach DVH in a journey time of around 2.5 hours so that she could carry out her role, enabling patients to receive their procedure on the day planned.

I think this shows Sarah’s dedication and commitment to her role and to the service she provides as part of the endoscopy team here at Darent Valley Hospital.".

Well done Sarah, you certainly went the extra mile!
