On the 2nd May 2019 the Trust held its very first Osteoporisis Educational Event. Organised by Sara Santos Chabi, our Osteoporosis Clinical Nurse Specialist, the event welcomed both patients and healthcare professionals alike. Their were five speakers, all sharing invaluable information about osteoporosis, treatment drugs, diet & supplementation and exercise. Also available and assisting on the evening were the Royal Osteoporosis Society and the Osteoporosis Support Group from Gravesend.

Speakers were:

  • Dr Colin Weekes – Ortho-geriatrician
  • Kam Sahota – Senior Pharmacist and Non-medical Prescriber
  • Sarah Haslam – Mouthcare Nurse
  • Chamu – Senior Physiotherapist
  • Professor Susan Lanham-New - Professor of Human Nutrition & Head, Nutritional Sciences Department at the University of Surrey.

Sara said "The feedback from attendees was very positive with everyone commenting on how interesting all of the speakers had been. I would like to send a special thank to all of our speakers, the ROS, the ROS Support Group and also our Director of Nursing, Siobhan Callanan for her presence. Everyone's support for the event meant a lot to me and it validated my effort in organising it. I am looking forward to organising future events and make Osteoporosis education a regular occurrence at the Trust."
