It's International Women's Day, here's what Francoise Iossifidis, Consultant Anaesthetist / Deputy Medical Director had to say about how she has progressed in the NHS and how good it is for women.

When I started working in the NHS 32 years ago as a Senior House Officer (SHO), I didn’t think my journey would take me where I am today, Deputy Medical Director at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust. It has been a long and at times challenging career but the NHS has given me opportunities that I might not have had in my own country France and for this I am very grateful. This demonstrates the openness and fairness that sits at the heart of our work culture. I am really pleased that the working conditions for women have improved and become more flexible and family friendly. Healthcare can be difficult, demanding but also very rewarding. Over the years I have trained many young women to become anaesthetists whom are now training others, contributing further to the presence of women in medicine. Thank you to the NHS – Happy International Women’s Day.
