Highly Commended

Congratulations Dr Uduakobong Ndiyo our Darzi fellow and Dr Coral Akenzua from Medway NHS Foundation Trust who have been awarded "Highly Commended" in the Improving Patient and Community Engagement category at the Healthcare Transformation Awards. There were 100 projects entered into this category, 15 final nominations and to be placed 2nd is an AMAZING achievement. Highly Commended was awarded for Dr Nidiyo End of Life project in Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley and Dr Akenzue’s Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) project in Medway, their co-production worked brilliantly whilst working with stakeholders and service users.

Dr Ndiyo’s, End of Life project looked at ways in which she could improve End of Life care for patients and one that their families would be comfortable with. This project centered on engagement with our community who worked with us to coordinate and produce an agreed but sensitive pathway called frailty 7-9 which helps identify patients at the end of life enabling early conversations.

Dr Akenzua project on COPD involved similar engagement with the community and discovered that COPD was occurring in a much younger age group nationally and this group was underrepresented in care pathways. The outcome shaped of the new clinical pathways with emphasis on primary care and GP teaching sessions.
