Double Success in Endoscopy

Double Success

Our Endoscopy Service at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust is celebrating 2 of its most recent successes. In addition to its continuation of JAG accreditation for another year, they have also been busy training nurse Endoscopists.

Jane Abrehart has been an accredited Nurse Endoscopist with the service since October 2017, performing lower GI procedures such as colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and polypectomy. In February Jane was also successful in completing her upper GI training and is now also able to perform Gastroscopy procedures.

Joanne Goncalves, staff nurse, with the service for just over 2 years was seconded onto a Health Education England accelerated learning course and she too has now become a Nurse Endoscopist also for Gastroscopy procedures. It is hoped that in the near future Joanne will go on to learn lower GI procedures as well. Both colleagues have worked extremely hard to achieve their skills and we would like to wish them many congratulations.

Their success allows a much greater flexibility within Endoscopy and will enable the service to provide more sessions which will certainly benefit our patients. It is hoped that in the near future the service will be able to support more nurse endoscopists in their training which will allow further developmental/career paths for nursing colleagues
