Vanguard Showcase

Vanguard Celebration and Showcase Event

On Tuesday 4 July the Foundation Healthcare Group (FHG) Vanguard hosted a Celebration and Showcase event in Robens Suite, Guy’s Tower. The event was attended by over 100 healthcare leaders who have contributed to the Vanguard programme, including Chief Executives of both partner trusts, Susan Acott, Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust and Amanda Pritchard, Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, as well as representatives from NHS England and the clinical teams who are delivering the improvements for patients.

The event boasted a number of influential speakers including Sir Ron Kerr, Vanguard Programme Senior Responsible Officer and Louise Watson, Director of New Care Models at NHS England. During the panel discussion both Sir Ron and Louise spoke about the FHG Vanguard’s commitment to collaborative working and how this has accelerated the pace of change.

Each clinical workstream presented their work to date and how learning from the Vanguard programme is being incorporated into structures and services going forward. Dr Jagdip Sidhu, Cardiology Consultant at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, who couldn’t attend the event in person, recorded a short video outlining highlights and learning from the cardiology workstream. In particular he emphasised how support from colleagues at Guy’s and St Thomas’ allows him to up-skill his team, as well as providing specialist care for patients closer to home.

The Vascular team spoke about the innovative Proactive Care of Older People undergoing Surgery (POPS) service and how this is already impacting patients. Dr Catherine Meilak and Dr Anna Whittle, Registrars at Dartford and Gravesham, shared a number of patient stories which illustrate the shortened patient referral journeys enabled by the service.

Dr Alok Gupta, Paediatric Clinical Director, at Dartford and Gravesham, and Dr Ronny Cheung, Consultant Paediatrician at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust gave an overview of how patient pathways are being redesigned in collaboration with patients and clinicians from both trusts in order to streamline paediatric epilepsy services at Dartford and Gravesham. This not only improves each patient’s individual experience, but also drastically reduces waiting times.

The evening drew to a close with heartfelt thanks from all the speakers, and with an encouragement to keep collaborating and leading the way for change across the NHS.
