New CCTV Installed

CCTV Installed

The installation of the new CCTV system at Darent Valley Hospital is a major step forward in making the hospital a safer and more secure environment for patients, staff and visitors. The new CCTV system became fully operational at the end of August 2016 and is now in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The number of internal cameras has been more than doubled from 69 to 169. Additional cameras have been installed in the Emergency Department to provide comprehensive cover in all areas with the exception of treatment cubicles. All the hospital corridors on all levels are now covered by CCTV. Camera coverage in and around maternity has been improved and a number of other key areas not previously covered now have active CCTV. New state of the art Digital Video Recorders have been installed which allow for near real-time recordings from all cameras to be stored. The new cameras have a digital zoom facility offering clarity of picture not previously available.

A fibre optic network dedicated for security systems has been installed throughout the hospital. This network can accommodate additional CCTV cameras, any new access control and alarm systems and do so more cost effectively than before. The internal and external CCTV cameras are now managed as a single system.

Mark Dunnett, Security Manager said: The new CCTV represents a significant investment by the Trust in safety at Darent Valley Hospital. CCTV coverage is instrumental in protecting our patients, staff and visitors and can be used in evidence for prosecution. This new CCTV system replaces one that had become obsolete and no longer fit for purpose.
