A Special Visitor for Willow Ward

A special visitor for Willow Ward

An extra special treat for a special bear

The Willow Children’s ward had a special visitor on Wednesday 16th November.  A very well-known bear took time out from his busy schedule to meet the children and spread a little joy.

Willow ward is the hospital’s dedicated children’s ward and looks after children up to the age of 16.  The ward is currently caring for around 18 children with problems including breathing difficulties,  medical conditions and fractures.  Some children for just 24hrs, others can be in for months.  Knowing how important mum and dad are to recovery a parent can stay close overnight to keep them company.

Jenny, a Sister on the children’s ward said: I became a paediatric nurse following my own experience as a patient on a children’s ward.  I was so impressed with care and kindness I received I decided that’s what I wanted to be.  Caring for children is so rewarding and such a privilege.  They never cease to amaze me.  No matter how poorly they are they always find time to laugh, play and have fun.  They are an inspiration to us all.
